MISCONDUCT OF ETHICAL ISSUES IN HR

What do you mean by unethical behavior?
-An action that falls out of what's morally right for a person when it comes on choosing between his profession and his self interest or greed which further causes breakdown of trust.

An organization for it's better functioning rely completely and fully on HR department on recruiting, hiring and training the appropriate employees effectively. Any type of ethical misconduct done by HR division can have legal consequences for the business if it's left undetected. The main problem starts when the HR Manager start to think for it's own benefit ratgra than the company's he is working in.

There are various ways of violating the company's policies for own interest like-

1. Acceptance of payoffs: The HR employees accepts payment from the job seekers so that they can get selected in the hiring process without having the more potentiality than the actually deserved candidates which represents the ethical misconduct and because of this people with maximum potential lack behind. Instead of doing all this, the HR professional should hire the employees with maximum qualification without the expectation of money.

2. Discrimination done in hiring the employees: In this context, the discrimination is done on the basis of race, sex, gender, religion which can lead in damaging the organization too, which can also be costly to defend. Discrimination can also harm the reputation of your business leading to downfall, lost in revenue generation and potential of the business.
- This is the duty of HR Manager to recruit people on basis of the qualifications, their skills and not on their personal issues or relationship with the people. And if not done this way can again lead to fall in business and damaging it too. It's a well said that " the relationship already known or having are typically not the well- kept secret.

3. Leakage of the personal information: Files relates to HR should always be kept secured and secretly. It should only be used for the business purposes and should be kept in secured and safe location. Sharing the personal information of the business with anyone let it be outside or inside is again an ethical misconduct. There should be understanding of confidentiality to every HR Managers.

All this lead to violating company policies. Some policies considered unethical for example:
1. Impersonate salaries: The word impersonate means the alteration of one's appearance to take on someone's identity. This happens mostly during recuritment process, where the people are promised to get the salary packages upto their requirements so as to get hired and after joining in a month salaries paid is lesser than what was promised than the one said in the starting.

2. Policies related to training: Training and Development is the core function of the HR department. To work this program effectively and efficiently, needs a strategic process and correct way of implementing as it costs money and precious time as well and when this program does not work well it loses its relevance and importance in employees mind and they started taking this for granted which is again a big damage to organization.

So, there should be correct flow of all the policies with HR and the employees within it. Greater heights can also be achieved through ethical means as well.

  1. I do completely agree with whatever you shared here. Afterall people are the main assest of the organisation and they should be selected on the basis of their qualifications irrespective of caste, religion etc. And the most thing is the selection of HR manager itself as they are the key to success or failure of any organization.

  2. Ya this happens almost everywhere. But I think if you have talent and do work smartly you can overcome this situation also.

  3. According to me HR Manager gives 100% while recruiting the employees in the company. But the HR manager cannot concern about each employees need and want so some employees may take bribe to fulfill their needs. It may occur due to lesser salary.

    1. I do agree that it might happen but then what about the ethics???...Business without ethics can absolutely reach to the top within short period but cannot sustain for long period of time...but if followed through ethical principle could take a lot time to reach the top but will sustain for sure and this makes the huge difference.

    2. I do agree that business with ethics is important but every individual has it's own point of view and at last money matters the most from my point of view.

    3. So according to you earning money is important but not the way through which it's achieved...may it be legal or unlegal, ethical or unethical?
And sometimes doing wrong things in any way not only harm the single individual doing that but an organization as a whole.

  4. This is so true. This actually happens most of the time. If someone faces this kind of problem they should complaint that's what I think.

    1. But can I know to whom they should complain??....To the organization?? And if do...will they trust this person on what basis are you giving this complaint, because HR manager is absolutely the trusted person as I already had mentioned that the success and failure depends on them....

  8. Discrimination in professional field is not at all justified .I think there should be some superior authorities to have a check on HR manager ...who can ruin the company.

  9. You are definitely correct but all these unscrupulous issues need to be stopped and it can only get into control when the organisation put some constraints over the HR before blindly believing as it may lead to degradation of a company sometimes ...our country is mostly affected by this so there should b proper basement of an organisation to handle this..

    1. Completely agreed..but self interest or self greed changes according to time and need. May be during selection time people might be a completely different then now what he is... because sometimes money speaks. Instead of that everyone should have knowledge about ethics as said earlier that it might not lead to success suddenly but absolutely will not cause any damage to the organization.

  11. I completely agree with you. HR should not do so beacube he/she is most trusted department in a company because indirectly if he will keep the employees happy, employees will run the organization nicely. But in this case yo overcome this there should be kept proper watch on HR.

  12. Hiring and termination decisions must be made without regard to ethnicity, race, gender, sexual preference or religious beliefs. HR must take precautions to eliminate any bias from the hiring and firing process by making sure such actions adhere to strict business criteria.

    1. Obviously bias should be removed and of not there should be strict business criteria ...well said😊

  15. The issues regarding unethical acts in the past has always been discovered with a past history of oppression or discrimination with the person involved so how would you judge that angle of perspective and reason of this act?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So are you saying doing anything form past may it be ethical or not is justifiable?

    2. Baccha....I am well aware of these problems, you don't need to highlight the problem again. I want to know your opinion regarding the incidences that lead to such unethical acts and not question me in return because I did not conclude anything.

      Delete
    3. In my opinion I found it unethical of course. This all incidences are lead due to self greed because already being at higher level he is earning a lot and is trusted a lot but when it comes to self satisfaction we know human beings can never be satisfied and then they choose the unethical path, which actually should not happen.

  16. I do agree with the disciplinary values of these acts but pointing out the ideologies is not enough. Everyone is aware of there ethics but still they do it. I hope I can get a satisfactory response regarding the reason which compels them to do so apart from any selfish reasons.

    1. That is the thing am saying here, everyone is aware what's right and what's not but still they do. It's not just about knowing but also about applying and that matters. Here HR should work professionally not personally this makes the difference.

  17. But why will he think about his Company If he is beneficial and we are talking about Misconduct and Unethical issues with wich he came to that Position and if truly gains such position by his politiness I am sure he won't do such unethical business

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But till now how much I have seen is when actually people get the highest position and trust in the organization they start following unethical means because money can never be satisfactory to you no matter how much you earn. Needs keep on increasing and so do greed.

  18. Yes,it is true that many tutees are facing problems when getting jobs, and as well as hired hand also facing problems in many applied fields. But the problem is that, when a person started a job he face this type of problems. But after few years ,when he achieves a good position then he forget everything and again do the same things new employees. So it's became a costume ,and the people who are accountable for
this are those who faced these problem . So if we want to change that we have to change ourself ,and our mentality. And if someone is facing this that doesn't mean that he will leave that job ,he have to face all problems . Beacuse each and everything is a part of life .Thanks .

  19. HR constantly must be monitored to make sure it complies with hiring, promotion and termination guidelines. Decisions about benefits, conflict resolution, paid time off and maternity leave also can present difficulties.

  20. Misconduct of HR leads sometimes to failure to maintain confidentiality of customers or employees which lead to employees pressure to compromise standard and then they are not being able to speak out

  30. I completely agree with what you have written....an organisation stands strong only because of its employees and therefore no discrimination should be done among them....everyone has their own roles to play for the successful and smooth running of the organisation and so judging these employees and discriminating among them is an imbecile act
